WE HAVE BEEN READING...
In Pear Class we LOVE story time! Here are some of the books that we have been enjoying, (click on the picture to listen to the story again at home). Help your child to develop their comprehension skills by discussing the characters, setting and main events from these stories.
This half term we are going to be reading lots of stories by Judith Kerr; we will also be finding out more about her fascinating life. Why not listen to one of her stories on line or have a look at our Curriculum Overview to find out about all of the other exciting things we'll be getting up to.
This half term, out topic is "We're Going on Safari." We will be finding out all about Kenya; we will be comparing the human and physical geography of Kenya to our local area, learning to use a compass to navigate and beginning to understand why people might visit Kenya on holiday.
HELPFUL HUNDRED SQUARE
In maths, we are continuing to read, write, order and compare numbers to 100. We are also working on saying the number 1 more and less and 10 more and less than any given number. We are using a range of resources, including 100 squares, to support us with this.
- HUNDRED SQUARE - Hundred Hunt
- HUNDRED SQUARE - Paint the Squares
- HUNDRED SQUARE - Number Splat
- ORDERING AND SEQUENCING - Coconut Ordering

- ORDERING AND SEQUENCING - Blast Off

We will be reading the story of Plop, the owl who was afraid of the dark and using this as inspiration for our own stories. Have a look at our curriculum overview to find out more about all of the fun things that we will be getting up to.

ONE MORE AND ONE LESS
In maths we are learning to say the numbers one more and less than any given number to 30 (moving to 50, then 100 once children are secure). Why not play one of these fun, interactive ICT games at home?
WALK IN THE LOCAL AREA
The children from Key Stage One went for a walk around Runcorn Old Town. We looked at some of the old buildings in our area and found out a little bit more about them. We thought about what we like about where we live and how the area could be improved.
THE NAUGHTY BUS
This week we have been reading the story of The Naughty Bus (by Jan and Jerry Oke). Unfortunately, the Naughty Bus got too close to the edge of the pond and fell in! We have been describing what he saw and how he felt, while he lay at the bottom of the pond.
In maths we have been learning to partition 1-digit numbers. We have been thinking about how to partition in different ways using resources to help us.
LITTLE RED HEN
We have been learning to retell the story of The Little Red Hen from memory. We have been using Pie Corbett's 'Talk for Writing' actions and story maps to help us remember all of the words. Click on the link below to practise at home.
